This course will cover a full range of couples therapy skills, all based on the theory and methods from Dr. Heitler's book From Conflict to Resolution.
The skills to be taught will include:
using the conflict resolution theoretical map for guiding treatment
teaching cooperative talking, listening, dialogue and other communications skills
guiding win-win conflict resolution
utilization of speedy access techniques for clarifying sub-conscious earlier-in-life sources of current sensitivities
use of anger management interventions, for keeping the sessions safe and for clients to implement at home
using rapid treatment methods, mainly utilizing visualizations, for dealing with anxiety, anger, and depression
enhancing positivity in the couple relationship
The teaching methods will include:
explanations of the skills
role-plays for the leader to model and participants to practice the skills
handouts for participants to use with clients
consultations on cases the group members currently are treating.
Dr. Susan Heitler, formerly of Denver and now living in Israel, has practiced as a clinical psychologist with a specialty in couples therapy for over 45 years. During this time, Dr. Heitler has published:
