After completing my B.A. degree, I worked at an emergency center for children at risk. This work made me realize how important it is to look at a human being as a set of systems and not only as a subject with no relation to these systems he’s part of. The connection that was established with the children contributed to their sense of confidence and trusting adults, which has led me to choose to continue with my studies in Clinical Social Work, with a certification in therapy with children and adolescents.
Following that, during my internship and work with adults, adolescents, and children, I have seen how family members affect one another. Therefore, I have come to the understanding that in order to work effectively and be able to advance the client, there is a need for complex system work. Every person is a part of different systems that affect them, and vice versa. Under this assumption, I make sure during my work with children and adolescents to work together with the parents, in order to find the right and best way to create a significant change for them and their children. At the end, that is my primary goal.
As an emotional therapist I have worked in different settings with children and adolescents at risk, I have interned in open psychiatric departments with children and adults. Throughout the years I have gained experience while working with adults, children, adolescents and parents. Which was done while working in a multi-professional setting and with the different systems the client was part of. Therapy begins with an intake meeting for impression, getting to know each other, setting goals and expectations.
My approach to helping individuals, parents and children is first and foremost to understand what would be suited for them. As an integrative therapist I combine tools from different approaches, that help me customize the tools that will be used during therapy. Therefore, it is important for me to se goals at the beginning of therapy, alongside understanding the expectations from therapy. I believe in working in cooperation with parents, and thinking together their child and how to take the tools being used in therapy into their home and everyday life.
I have much experience working with children and adolescents that have dealt with difficulties including: acute transitions, adjustments to new settings, ADHD, ASD (Autistic Spectrum Disorder), low motivation in the social and educational aspects, learning disabilities, and crisis within the family.
As a therapist, my role is to gain a deeper understanding of the family, parents and child, and the educational system. I believe that the systems we are part of affect us and therefore they are a vital aspect in therapy.
