Get Help Israel’s aim is to verify the accuracy and updated information of the name, contact details and credentials of the therapist; and that the therapist is not subject to any licensing restrictions. Get Help Israel seeks to verify the factual accuracy of the information about the therapist at the time that he/she is listed in the directory, and every year annually at the time of renewal of the registration. Get Help Israel is not responsible for any change of credentials of the therapist in the interim period following such registration and/or renewal of registration of the therapists in its directory.
While Get Help Israel seeks to verify the factual accuracy regarding information pertaining to the therapists listed in its directory, Get Help Israel does not confirm the truth or accuracy as to what the therapists have represented to Get Help Israel or what they have requested to be listed and made public on the Site. Persons considering contacting any of the therapists listed in the directory are urged to conduct their own independent investigation and evaluation before retaining his/her services.
Alex Lewis MEdSpecial Educator, Educational Counselor, Play therapist,
I am a special educator, a licensed educational counselor and a play therapist with over 20 years of professional experience working with schools and residential facilities working with people with disabilities, staff members and their families in Israel. I believe that people with disabilities must be able to live the lives they choose and have a good quality of life. All people will learn the things that hold meaning for them. It is essential that parents and family, who know the child best of all, work together with frameworks providing optimal services in order to achieve this.
I offer parent counseling and training to parents of children with disabilities. I believe that the focus must be seeing the person, and not the disability. In this way the barriers and difficulties facing the disabled child may be recognized and understood. The difficulties and challenges facing the parent/s may then be identified. It is essential to focus on each parent’s self-worth and values. Priority goals may be set with realistic steps, providing a path for progress that may increase independent functional and choice-making abilities and lead to increased self-esteem and well-being for all.
Play therapy is especially suited to children from 3 to 10 years old. I also work with play therapy for children with disabilities beyond this age. “Toys are children’s words and play is their language.” I work towards building a therapeutic relationship with the child in which the child feels valued, listened to and understood. In the play therapy session the child has the opportunity to explore, turn things over in his mind, reflect on his problems and seek new solutions.
I offer Practical Parenting Workshops for small groups of parents. Many parents today have difficulties setting limits for their children and sometimes finding “special time” to interact with them. These workshops offer practical ways to understand the world of your child and to use the world of play in order to improve communication and relations and to empower the security of the child and the parent.
