SEE FAR CBT For Grief and Bereavement

Why this workshop—now?

In the wake of October 7, countless individuals and families continue to live with overwhelming loss. Beyond the pain of separation, many mourners are burdened by unfinished business: words never spoken, conflicts unresolved, guilt that lingers, love interrupted mid-sentence. These “unsaid” elements often complicate grief, prolong suffering, and obstruct the natural processes of meaning-making and re-engagement with life.

Responding to this urgent clinical reality, Prof. Lahad's team has developed new adaptations and an expanded protocol within the SEE FAR CBT model, specifically designed to  support therapeutic work with bereavement, particularly when loss is sudden, violent, or traumatic.

This is the first SEE FAR CBT for Grief and Bereavement course offered in English.

Course Overview

This focused, practice-oriented training offers a deep dive into how unresolved relational elements shape the grief trajectory. Participants will examine:

  • How unfinished business contributes to complicated and prolonged grief
  • The emotional and somatic impact of unresolved guilt, ambivalence, and longing
  • Barriers to meaning-making following sudden or traumatic loss
  • Cultural and contextual factors that intensify “the unsaid,” especially in collective trauma

Grounded in contemporary grief research and extensive clinical experience, the workshop bridges theory with hands-on practice, supporting clinicians in translating insight into effective intervention.

Clinical Tools & Methods

Participants will be introduced to a new SEE FAR CBT–based protocol for working with unresolved aspects of loss. Through guided demonstrations and experiential learning, you will practice tools that help clients to:

  • Articulate what was left unsaid in a safe, structured manner
  • Work compassionately with ambivalence, anger, and guilt
  • Create healthy forms of internal “closure” without forcing resolution
  • Transform painful fragments into a coherent, healing narrative
  • Reconnect with personal, relational, and cultural strengths

Methods include guided exercises, reflective dialogue, and optional creative modalities (e.g., imagery, symbolic expression), allowing flexibility across therapeutic styles and settings.
