ABOUT

I am a sand-play therapist based in Yafo, who has experience working with children, teenagers and adults and I am bi-lingual. I am currently working as a sand-play therapist with school age children who have behavioural problems, especially in articulating themselves. In the session I invite the child to choose any of the numerous figures laid out and place them in the sand tray this is an inviting, safe environment for the children to express themselves, without needing to verbalise their problems. Here they can explore their relationships with their families, their place in the world and how their behaviour impacts themselves and others.
Everyone regardless of age is drawn to the figures, they represent all aspects of our lives in miniature. Choosing from them is an expression of a person's individuality, as we are drawn to figures that speak only to us. Clients are then asked to place the figures in the sand tray, where they construct a narrative with the figures standing in for people and situations. The sand tray provides a safe place for the client to express herself non-verbally and working with the sand tray and figures enhances this safe expression of clients' emotions and feelings.

Prior to my experience working with children in after-school care, I worked with adults in an NHS mental health unit in a hospital in South London. This unique experience provided me with the opportunity to work with troubled adults who required a special and patient approach. I also worked for a year in a high school, with troubled teenagers. The sand tray allowed them to express themselves, providing insight into their personal trauma. This gave them the opportunity to manage and contain their feelings, and live more complete lives.

My aim in working with the sand tray and figures is driven by my desire to give clients the freedom to explore and resolve their problems in a safe and playful environment.
