I've always valued the strengths of being a Social Worker/ Therapist in private practice. We are trained and taught to value process, understand human dynamics and work practically with our clients with empathy and direction. My ethos is "We create our reality" and therefore the main focus of my work with my clients it to help them take ownership by understanding their history and patterns of behaviour and then most importantly to own the decision of what is needed to go forward. I am a very interactive therapist and have been described as a straight shooter with patience and an ability to contain and offer security.
I am aware of the constant conflict people have of wanting change and yet resisiting it. It is a natural process and must be part of the dialogue in therapy so that the resistance becomes a facet rather than an obstacle of the process. I believe that people are ready to look at themselves and their problems in a different light when they have a sense of safety, perspective and guidance including manageable steps.
I've always used dreams and illness as a valuable part of therpay as it offers uncensored information and enlightenment from our higher consciousness. I co-facilitated Dream groups for 4 years and have experience with the power of Drama and Gestalt techniques. I use dreamwork as a regualr part of therapy and I generally draw from various paradigms as I see fit. I am not allied with any one school of thought and prefer to be described as ecclectic in my approach.
I work with adults, couples and families and have 35 years experience with the umbrella term of life adjustment. While it is normal to experience a myriad of change and loss in a lifetime , we don't always have the skills and ability to make the leap with the least amount of damage. I believe entering a therapeutic relationship to understand and navigate life adjustment is a responsible decision we all have to make at different stages of our life, and enjoying a resource rather than experiencing a sense of anomie and isolation is preferable..

DreamworkModern dreamwork asserts that the only person that can make meaning of their dream is the dreamer, which is what separates dreamwork from dream interpretation. In dreamwork, the practitioner is a guide in the exploration of the dream, with the client making meaning of the dream for themselves. The reason the practitioner is only a guide is because thoughts, emotions, as well as meaning of symbols are deeply personal and subjective. Dreams can be used to uncover hidden feelings and beliefs, develop self-awareness, and gain insight into problems and potential solutions. Dreamwork is often paired with other therapeutic modalities.
Family Systems TherapyFamily Systems Therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the importance of understanding how the family functions as a whole, and how individual family members interact and affect one another. It focuses on how family dynamics, such as communication patterns, roles, and power dynamics, shape behavior, and how changing these dynamics can lead to positive change. Family Systems Therapy is a collaborative approach, where the therapist works with the family as a whole to identify and address areas of conflict and distress.
Gestalt TherapyGestalt therapy is an experiential, humanistic approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes personal responsibility, and that focuses on the individual's experience in the present moment. It explores an individual's emotions, behaviors, and thoughts, and how they may be influencing one another. It is rooted in the belief that people are responsible for their own experience, and that they can make conscious choices to improve their lives. The goal of gestalt therapy is to help individuals gain insight into their current experiences and to become aware of how their behaviors and thoughts shape their present reality.
Holistic PsychotherapyHolistic psychotherapy emphasizes the individual's interconnectedness between the individual's physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects and views them as inseparable components of a single holistic system. Holistic psychotherapy focuses on understanding how these components interact and affect a person’s wellbeing. The goal of holistic psychotherapy is to create a sense of wholeness and harmony within the individual, and to foster self-awareness and self-care. Holistic practitioners use a variety of approaches, including traditional talk therapy, mindfulness practices, and body-based therapies like movement therapy. They also may incorporate nutrition, physical activity, and other lifestyle factors into treatment plans.
Systems Theory / TherapySystems therapy is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on understanding how people's behavior is affected by their relationships with others. This form of therapy is based on the idea that the individual is embedded within a larger system, such as a family unit or work environment, and that changes to that system can cause changes in an individual's behavior. Systems therapy emphasizes the importance of understanding how these systems interact and how they can be changed to improve the individual's mental health. The therapist works to identify patterns of behavior in the system, identify areas of conflict or stress, and help the individuals develop strategies to make changes within the system that will lead to healthier outcomes.
