Joseph Wallach PhD

Clinical Psychologist

ABOUT

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with a PhD in Clinical Psychology from the Illinois Institute of Technology, Institute of Psychology. I made aliyah in 2016 after having a private practice for the previous 5 years, working part-time for 3.5 years at The Chicago Lighthouse for People Who are Blind or Visually Impaired, and teaching. Prior to that I worked in a small group practice in Chicago, Illinois. I also have worked as a psychologist in various medical settings or in collaboration with other medical professionals including chronic pain, oncology, vision impairment and loss, and weight loss.

I primarily provide individual treatment with adults and the elderly, I do also work with adolescents and on occasion children. My approach to therapy is collaborative and is grounded in the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Client-centered psychotherapy. I integrate aspects of other therapeutic models in my approach to individualized treatment such as interpersonal, supportive, insight focused, solution focused, relaxation, mindfulness, short-term, and biofeedback.

My focus is to provide a service tailored to the individual, identification of the primary reason for entering treatment and establishment of a goal for therapy, with the purpose of helping people move forward toward their own chosen goals even after they have left therapy. This approach can lead to short-term or long term therapy. I am committed to providing services that are high quality, empathic, evidence based, are tailored to each client’s individual needs and goals. CBT is based on identification and addressing of patterns of negative or unhealthy thoughts and resulting behavior that interfere with optimal functioning and emotional well-being. This approach will teach you how to replace those patterns with healthier, more positive ways of thinking and being.

I am currently accepting new clients in Jerusalem and Modi’in.

I work in English and Hebrew and aim to provide a high level of service. I will work hard to tailor the therapy specifically to your needs, based on a understanding of both your history and present concerns. I bring qualities of empathy, optimism, and expertise; though you the individual is the expert on yourself. I focus on the therapeutic relationship as the key ingredient towards a positive therapy experience and successful results.

Please call me to set up a convenient meeting time. I look forward to speaking with you.
